Trump policy hits home. Groundwork Hudson Valley, one of our best and most effective Community organizations that has done so much here, was abruptly told in April that it was losing $5.5 million in grant funding that had been appropriated to cover educational and environmental programs. The reason? A sudden decision to cut any programs that are related to environmental justice or climate change. I haven't investigated this yet, but I imagine that this was a congressional appropriation.

"Sinners"... I think critics are contorting themselves in order to be polite. This is one half of a very good movie, and one half of a rather dumb vampire flick.. I just don't buy that the vampires are some kind of meaningful metaphor. I respect Coogler, he doesn't want to make an intelligent move that doesn't make any money. So he tacks on the exploitation genre, not only zombies but there's a Rambo machine gun thing as well as a kill the klan thing. But isn't it sad that it could have been a 100% excellent film? He really captured something about the Delta and the birth of the blues in the first half. I could have gone a bit more with the horror thing if he had built it in a little bit more in connection with the crossroads myth and all the superstitious traditions involving mojo hands and black cat bones etc. One of the superb characters was a practitioner of that sort of herbal magic. But any movie that has Buddy Guy in it can't be all bad...
